Individual Metrics: Web of Science (WoS)

NDSU Libraries’ subscription to WoS includes Science Citation Index Expanded to 1900 and Social Sciences Citation Index to 1956. Citation counts in WoS can be done with the same strategy used to find an h-index (hyperlink to h-index page). However, a quicker method is to do a Cited Reference Search.

  1. Click on the Cited Reference Search link from the WoS home page.
  2. Enter the author's name (Example: buck, lb), the journal the article was published in, and/or the publication year for the work that you want to find citations for and click search.
  3. On the results page, review the results to make sure you have found the correct article. You will get a citation count on the results page and you can check the box next to the article and click on the Finish Search button to see the actual citations.
  4. Conversely, you can enter just a name and carefully review the results list to find your target author and add up the citations right from the results page.
