Lawrence Welk’s Father Passes at Home

"Lawrence Welk’s Father Passes at Home." Bowdle Pioneer, 16 December 1937.

Funeral services were held on November 28, at Strasburg for the late Ludwig Welk, father of Lawrence Welk, well known and popular orchestra leader.

Mr. Welk was a pioneer of Strasburg having come from there in the late ninetees. He was a native of South Russia. For many years he followed the blacksmith trade in town and lived on his farm three miles west of Strasburg.

Like his famous son, he was a musician but confined his playing to weddings and country dances throughout the southern part of the country.

The deceased leaves his wife and four sons and four daughters to mourn his departure. With the exception of Lawrence, who lives in Omaha, Nebraska, the members of the family have made their homes near Strasburg—Eureka Blade.
